Planners’ Day on the Hill

Fred Neal, Jr. AICP attended the 2016 Policy & Advocacy Conference in D.C.

From September 17-20, APA held the 2016 APA Policy and Advocacy Conference in Washington D.C. During the three-day conference planners from all over the country discussed various planning and policy issues including: funding future transportation and infrastructure projects, using open data to increase access to opportunity, integrating equity into placemaking, planning for positive health outcomes for communities and advocating for planning with public and elected officials.

National Community Planning Month

Established in 2006, National Community Planning Month is celebrated each October as a way to highlight the role of planners and the importance of good planning in our communities. Across the country, communities celebrate planning through a variety of avenues including have a mayoral proclamation declaring October as community planning month; planning department open houses; community tours; or photo contests. Planning is essential for our communities to prosper and maintain balance and cohesiveness.

AICP Exam Content Outline - revised for May 2017

Changes have been made to the AICP Certification Exam which will be implemented starting with the May 2017 testing window. A new content outline has been adopted and is displayed below. Also available is a new reading list having an emphasis on readily available materials. The new questions on the test will focus on what planners should know to be successful in the field of planning today including innovative practices, emerging issues, and best practices. These changes do not affect the exam being administered in November 2016.
