Welcome to the documentation (docs) pages for maintenance of APA Louisiana’s website, social media accounts, and e-newsletter. Topics are sorted into the nine categories shown below. This is a work in progress so expect changes and additions, and these instructions supersede any static Word document or similar instruction sheets released previously. This content is maintained by the Chapter PIO.

Articles, Jobs, Galleries
Here you will find instructions for creating, editing and managing the various types of content posted on the Chapter website. Articles appear in the blog, jobs are on the job board, annual conference pages are organized as chapters in a book, and historical items in the timeline have their own unique content type too.

Corporate Clean

Our website is built upon a Drupal stylesheet or theme called "Corporate Clean" by More Than (Just) Themes. Here you will find tips and tricks for customizing the appearance, maintaining the mobile-friendly "responsive" layout, and utilizing special features of the framework - think "coding" tips.

GoDaddy

The Chapter website is hosted by GoDaddy using economy Linux shared hosting. Here you will find instructions for managing these services, contact information, a little about the cPanel interface, and an overview of the open source Drupal 7.x content management system upon which this website is built.

Document Management

Google Drive & Filedepot

The Chapter has several methods of managing documents such as PDFs, DOCx, XLSx, PPTx, etc. Some are stored within the website framework using Filedepot, other documents are stored within Google Drive. Long-term backups can be uploaded to an APA FTP server by the Chapter Secretary or PIO.

American Planning Association

Both the APA and our Chapter have certain branding, logos, styles, colors and font guidelines that we are expected to follow using APA's Branding Guidelines (2007). Other portions of this section are specific to the appearance of our electronic communications including this website and e-newsletter.

LimeSurvey

This open source online survey platform has been installed on our web host and is available for our use with no quantity or user restrictions. It is similar to commercial solutions like Survey Monkey. Here you will find an overview of the process and sources of additional instruction for administering surveys.

Facebook, Twitter
The Chapter has established Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube social media accounts. They are of course separate from the website, but related as alternative modes of communication. Here you will find specific instructions and links to APA and Louisiana Chapter social media guidelines.

MailChimp

The Louisiana Chapter uses a basic (no-cost) level MailChimp bulk email account to design and deploy "responsive", mobile-friendly e-newsletters. Here you will find tips for design, content, and layout. Also included are instructions for maintaining the recipient database.
